چکیده

ABSTRACT This paper analyzes a CDMA system with a continuous uniform source, a scalar quantizer, and a hard decision block channel coder, under the constraint of fixed total bandwidth. The system employs a linear, minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) receiver for interference suppression. We study the performance for both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and flat Rayleigh fading channels. The analysis and numerical results give the optimal bandwidth allocation to the source coding, channel coding and spreading for different channel conditions.

Throughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...

Turbo Coding for a Coherent DS-CDMA System Employing a MMSE Receiver on a Rayleigh Fading Channel

Previous research which analyzed the performance of a convolutionally coded CDMA system with a MMSE receiver for interference suppression showed that lower rate codes are not always the best choice on Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, we analyze the performance of a turbo-coded CDMA system with the MMSE receiver. Theoretical bounds are derived based on the optimum tap weights of the MMSE...

The coding-Spreading Tradeoff Problem in Finite-Sized Synchronous DS-CDMA Systems

This dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of the coding-spreading tradeoff problem in finite-sized synchronous direct-sequence code-division multipleaccess (DS-CDMA) systems. In contrast to the large system which has a large number of users, the finite-sized system refers to a system with a small number of users. Much work has been performed in the past on the analysis of the spectral...

Evaluating the performance of turbo codes and turbo-coded modulation in a DS-CDMA environment

Recently, turbo codes have received great attention due to their outstanding performance. Unfortunately, a high performance is associated with large transmission delays prohibiting an application for speech transmission. Hence, the aim of this paper is the comparison of turbo codes employing short interleavers with convolutional codes in terms of bit error rate performance and computational eff...

Sequence Optimization in CDMA Point-to-point Transmission with Multipath

In this paper, we consider the problem of spreading sequence optimization in a CDMA point-to-point transmission over a multipath fading channel. The aim of the sequence optimization is to construct a set of spreading sequences to support users in the system with the minimum total transmission power when the MMSE receiver is used for signal reception. We consider the sequence optimization for tw...
